High Desert Heart Institute Study
Featuring ProArgi-9 Plus!
The High Desert Heart Institute is located in Victorville, California and is the epicenter for a groundbreaking heart disease study that is beginning to draw national attention. I chose the word “epicenter” for a reason. If the data collected continues to support the trends observed in the study, then the convictions of Dr. J. Joseph Prendergast and Dr. Louis Ignarro, that heart disease can be prevented and reversed by a proper L-Arginine and Nitric Oxide protocol, will be further enhanced.
The purpose of this page is to provide you with an overview of this landmark, 90-day, human clinical study done at one of the most prestigious heart institutes in the United States. This page will introduce you to the major contributors to this study, provide you with a general overview of the study, and collect each post concerning this study.
During the early part of 2009 a 90-day human clinical study was started at the High Desert Heart Institute. The study started with 35 congestive heart failure patients that were from the Congestive Heart Failure Unit at the institute. It concluded in July of 2009 with 33 patients. One patient dropped out because they received a new heart. The other patient dropped out because they were not able to remain compliant to the study’s protocols.
Over the course of the 90 day study, each patient received extensive diagnostic testing which generated approximately 7,000 points of data. Some of the tests used to generate this data were:
- Full Blood Panels (including fasting lipid and electrolytes)
- Full Urine Panels
- 2 Forms Pulse Wave Analysis
- C-Reactive Protein Levels
- Vitamin D3 Levels
- Ankle Brachial Index Testing (using ultra sound doppler)
- CT Heart Scan
The patients chosen for this study had all reached their maximum pharmacological and medical management, and there was nothing further that could be done for them outside of a heart transplant. Each patient was given 4 scoops of ProArgi-9 Plus per day for 90 days. Each scoop of ProArgi-9 Plus contains 5 grams of pharmaceutical grade L-Arginine as well as several other ingredients that support Nitric Oxide production and heart health.
It will be a period of time before this study will be completely ready for publication. However, the following general statement was made by Dr. Siva Arunasalam who helped direct and supervise this study:
“There was nothing else for us to try, we had tried everything with these patients. All patients showed a tremendous improvement in many, many objective data points that only can be attributed to ProArgi-9. . .”
Dr. Siva also made the following significant comment:
“. . . but what we ended up seeing was remarkable positive remodeling of the heart, positive pulmonary artery changes, pulmonary vascular changes in terms of pulmonary pressures, changes in the cardiac dimensions, changes in heart function. . .”
Because of the success of this study the High Desert Heart Institute has formally implemented an L-Arginine protocol using the ProAgri-9 Plus as part of their routine standard of care for all patients.
Major Contributors to the High Desert Heart Institute Study!
High Desert Heart Institute – This institute is located in Victorville, California and provides primary care and heart disease services in an outpatient setting. This outpatient center provides all of the routine heart tests such as electrocardiography, event monitoring, Holter monitoring, and routine blood tests. In the area of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic methods, this institute provides in-house echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, nuclear stress testing, pulmonary function testing as well as a variety of other important diagnostic modalities. This is the first outpatient center in the High Desert area to provide EECP (Enhanced External Counter Pulsation) which is an important therapy for those patients with angina and heart failure.
Dr. Siva Arunasalam – Dr. Siva (as he prefers to be called) is the Founder and Director of the High Desert Heart Institute. He authorized this study and paid for all the testing and patient care. Dr. Siva completed his cardiology training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was recruited by St. Mary Regional Medical Center to bring advanced cardiac care technology to the High Desert area. Initially the Institute started in a small office near the hospital but had explosive growth requiring a move to a larger facility. Because of the excellent care and treatment patients receive, the Institute is in the process of building an even larger facility on Hesperia Road so that it can better care for and service patients as well as incorporate more specialists into their operation.
Dan Austin, RN – Dan is the director of the Congestive Heart Failure Unit at the High Desert Heart Institute. He helped design this study and was the RN in charge of every patient in this study.
ProArgi9 Plus – This is the nutritional supplement used in this groundbreaking High Desert Heart Institute study. This product is designed by Dr. J. Joseph Prendergast and manufactured by Synergy WorldWide. It contains 5 grams of pharmaceutical grade L-Arginine plus several other ingredients like L-citrulline that support nitric oxide production and heart health.
Dr. J. Joseph Prendergast – Dr. Joe (as he prefers to call himself) is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolism and has a very large patient population at the Endocrine Metabolic Medical Center in Palo Alto California. Dr. Joe is a pioneer in the potential of L-Arginine (the precursor for Nitric Oxide) and L-citrulline to dramatically affect cardiovascular health. He is the product designer of the nutritional supplement ProArgi-9 Plus. Dr. Joe has used this product on over 6,000 patients. The American Diabetes Association named him Father of the Year for 2008. Of Dr. Joe’s large high-risk, patient population less than 1% has experienced a stroke or heart attack if they have followed his L-Arginine / L-citrulline protocol. Dr. Joe helped in the design of the High Desert Heart Institute study.
Synergy WorldWide – ProArgi-9 Plus is manufactured and distributed by Synergy WorldWide. They donated the product for this study but didn’t underwrite any of the costs for the study so that they could remain neutral in the study design and results.
Dan SwinDell – Dan helped bring all the parties together and facilitated some of the logistics of the High Desert Heart Institute study. He has an intimate knowledge of the study and its results.
Angelo Cici – Angelo was a patient at the High Desert Heart Institute who was invited to participate in this study because of significant cardiovascular issues. Angelo worked for Litton Industries as a Director of Product Support that oversaw 100 subsidiary companies. On December 20, 2008 he experienced a massive heart failure with simultaneous renal failure, congestive heart failure and a pacemaker failure. His life was saved in the emergency room but then he spent the next several weeks in and out of the hospital in an effort to stabilize his health. As Angelo describes it, “I was so weak I couldn’t even open a bottle of water by myself and I had decided, I had had enough. I told the nurses I wanted all the IV’s removed and I just wanted to go home and die.” Needless to say Angelo didn’t die and he feels “like I’m 40 years old again!”
Dr. Louis Ignarro – Dr. Ignarro did not participate in the High Desert Heart Institute study but his Nobel Prize winning research is at the heart of this study. In 1998 Dr. Ignarro shared the Nobel Prize in Medicine with two other American scientists for the discovery of Nitric Oxide and how it is the master signaling molecule for the cardiovascular system. In 2008, the American Heart Association selected Dr. Ignarro as a 2008 Distinguished Scientist. Dr. Ignarro firmly believes that the proper use of Nitric Oxide can significantly improve the health of most cells and make a major impact on reducing the risk of heart disease.
